Charles de Gaulle airport is located in Île-de-France, twenty-three kilometers northeast of Paris. It is called Roissy Charles de Gaulle because it occupies more than half of the commune of Roissy-en-France and General Charles de Gaulle. In addition, it is the seventh largest airport in the world, with more than 61.5 million passengers in 2012.
Charles de Gaulle airport is the largest in Europe with an area of 3,257 hectares covering the departments of Val-d'Oise (Roissy-en-France, Épiais-lès-Louvres), Seine-Saint-Denis (Tremblay-en-France) and Seine-et-Marne (Mauregard, Le Mesnil-Amelot and Mitry-Mory).
Following the saturation of Orly airport and the forecasting of traffic development prospects, which confirms a doubling every five years, it will be essential to consider a radical solution: the construction of an airport.
It is composed of three terminals:
- Terminal 1 is home to most of the major European and international airlines.
- Terminal 2 is operated by Air France and its partners and a few international airlines.
- Terminal 3 is intended to accommodate charter flights and low-cost airlines.
